Nicky Brimicombe
☘Qualified in Therapeutic Life Story Work, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) Level 2 and A Master’s in Trauma-Informed Practice in progress
I’m a certified Therapeutic Life Story Work (TLSW) practitioner, trained by TLSWi in the Rose model, a compassionate and effective approach that helps children and their carers make sense of their unique stories. My practice centres on creating safe, collaborative spaces where healing, understanding, and emotional growth can flourish.
At the heart of my work is a triadic relationship between child, carer, and practitioner. This impartial and trauma-informed process empowers children to explore their past, connect their current behaviours and emotions to earlier experiences, and build a coherent narrative. Carers gain deeper insight into how a child’s history shapes their present, strengthening attachment, trust, and the capacity for meaningful change.
I integrate Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) into my sessions, tailoring therapeutic tools to meet each child’s individual needs. My work is grounded in restorative practice and guided by regular supervision, ensuring the highest standards of care and continual professional growth.
Currently, I’m deepening my expertise through a Master’s in Trauma Informed Practice, an enriching academic journey that expands my understanding of systemic impact, relational safety, and the neuroscience of trauma. This evolving knowledge informs every aspect of my work, helping me support children and practitioners with even greater depth, clarity, and compassion.
With a lifelong dedication to supporting children, my career spans roles as a dance teacher, preschool manager, special educational support worker, primary teacher, and psychological wellbeing practitioner. This diverse background has given me a rich understanding of how to nurture children and empower the teams around them, creating environments where they can truly thrive.
