I have over 30 year’s experience of working with children, young people and adults. This has included 20 years as a Social Worker, in a variety of positions; Looked After Young People and Child Protection in Local Authorities, Young Offenders, both in the community and in Young Offenders Institutes (YOI), charities such as the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), in both England and Wales and with the Children and Family Court Advisory Support Service (CAFCASS) across the South West of England.
As a qualified, Level 4, Integrative Counsellor, I have been fortunate to practice with a number of Charities; Young Devon, with children and young people, and Pete’s Dragons, with adults who had been affected by suicide. I am currently working with First Light – a charity for survivors of sexual and domestic abuse. This has included counselling both, parents of children who had experienced sexual abuse and adults who are sexual abuse survivors. I also have my own private practice, situated in a converted stable in one of my fields where I live.
I grew up on a small holding, in the heart of mid Devon and have always had a passion for the great outdoors. I have a particular interest in Adventure and Eco Therapy, believing in the healing power of connecting with nature to promote wellbeing. I draw upon a broad range of evidence-based approaches, such as Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transpersonal Analysis and Body Process, Solutions Focussed Therapy, Gestalt, and Ecotherapy. I like to utilize space outside, as this is less confined and often enables the client to feel free to explore thoughts and process emotions. I am client led and work in an integrative way, depending on my clients needs.
