Spring Welcomes a Flock to the Farm

by Claire Stapley

Spring heralds the return of chickens to our farm, and we couldn't be more excited! After a hiatus of about a year, we now have a vibrant new flock of Loghmann Browns, eagerly strutting their stuff on our lush organic pastures.

These chickens play a vital role in our farm's regenerative system. As they peck, scratch, and aerate the soil, they also contribute valuable nutrients through their fertilization process. We practice rotational grazing, moving their houses and runs around the farm to ensure they have access to fresh herbal leys and diverse pasture lands, promoting soil health and biodiversity.

Easter Eggs!

Our new flock is still young, and their first eggs are adorable pullet eggs—small in size, with the occasional delightful surprise of a double yolk! While these tiny treasures may be just the beginning, they signal the start of a season filled with the anticipation of Easter delights. With Easter just around the corner, we're thrilled that our hens are now laying full-size eggs, perfect for all the baking, breakfasts, decorating, and other seasonal festivities.

As the seasons progress, we have the pleasure of treating our feathered friends to a variety of delights. From the apple pulp left over from juicing our apples to the nutritious mix of beans and grains from our green cover crops, every treat we provide contributes to the overall regenerative agriculture picture.

With each cluck and peck, our chickens remind us of the interconnectedness of all living things on the farm, playing their part in the cycle of regeneration and renewal that defines our agricultural practices. We look forward to seeing them thrive and continue to contribute to the vibrant ecosystem of our farm.
