Our thoughts, feelings and memories are stored in our bodies and this affects how we move, behave or experience the world. Somatic Movement Therapy can help us understand more of how we feel and what we need. It aims to help us feel more ourselves, more comfortable in our skin, and more and connected to others.

It can sometimes help when we don’t feel like talking much, or don’t understand why we feel the way we do. It can help us develop resources to manage the challenges of life.

Somatic Movement Therapy is based on a knowledge of how our nervous system operates and how it can go out of kilter when we experience stress and traumatic events. It is informed by an understanding of our early development as babies and young children and how this is affected by our sensory experience and how we were related to by others. It is founded on the belief that our bodies hold our history as well as our potential in the present and for the future. It doesn’t offer a treatment or cure, but enables us to work with what is held inside or outwardly expressed, for our story to be told and help us find our ground. Therapy offers one contribution to a person’s bigger life journey and the challenges they find along the way.

I began my career in Adult Mental Health and continued working with movement approaches in Community Arts, Early Years Education and Adoption. I teach on a Movement Therapy training, in Higher Education and offer professional supervision.

I really enjoy working with playful and creative approaches and being outdoors in all weathers.
